Critical edition of Brecht's early play "Baal", with the fifth, final version from 1955 printed in this volume, as well as all early versions and drafts. The fragment "The Evil Baal, the Anti-Social" - as well as Brecht's statements about the play have also been edited. A main part of this edition is the critical apparatus with a presentation of the history of the text, including the third version (1922), and explanations of the individual texts. A documentary part contains information about the productions of "Baal" and reports about the performances from 1923 to 1967.
