Small-format volume, measuring approximately 4" x 5.75", is bound in brown leather, with stamped gilt lettering and ornamental design to spine. Author's name and portrait appear, together with title "La divina comedia", stamped in gold on front cover. Book shows moderate external wear, with minor loss at top/bottom of spine cover. Covers display light rubbing. Binding is sound. Previous owner's name and stamp can be seen on half title page. Tiny perforations are visible along gutter of preliminary pages, including title page. Pages of text are clean and bright. Work is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and 111 illustrations reproduced from the album of John Flaxman, published in Florence in 1851.
