French lawyer and politician Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), is best known for this work, "The Physiology of Taste" (1826, first English translation 1854), to which he devoted twenty-five years of his life (a work published six weeks before his death) and in which the author no only discusses the preparation of exquisite dishes, but also presents his ideas on the pleasures of the table as a kind of doctrine of life.
