"This collection of prose extracts for translation into Russian is intended for university students and others of a comparable standard. In addition to passages from 20th century English authors, it includes a number of literal translations from contemporary Russian writers for retranslation into Russian. The book includes narrative and dialogue passages, philosophical and reflective pieces, and pieces in which either characterization or natural description predominates. Each passage is fairly fully annotated with cross-references to he authors' "Russian Syntax," and it is hoped that the two books will serve as companion volumes for more advanced students of the Russian language."
